I am Bobby Alger,

the Mix Master and owner of Platinum Cuts. I’m a musician at heart, emphasizing Trumpet and Piano. I perform and produce music as a solo artist under the moniker “Bobby St. Mute” and as well as a sideman with other artists such as Columbia Jones and the Harpoons (blues rock), Utahzolanos (salsa/Latin dance), New Soul Brigade (pop cover band), and Rufio (rap & hip hop). I also compose and arrange music for bands and orchestras, publishing it under my other brand, Mountainside Music.

I began cutting music for dance in 2012

after I watched my sister struggling to find a reliable and affordable person to cut music for the dances she choreographed. A phenomenal choreographer, I felt it was an absolute shame that the clunky cuts distracted from the brilliant performances. I had some experience recording and producing music, so I offered to cut her next song.

The skill came naturally as I applied what I was learning from the world of composition and orchestration. I felt the most important and challenging part of any piece of music transitions; a bad transition into a strong climax leaves a listener dissatisfied. I read—and continue to read—books about recording, mixing, and mastering, ever striving to understand the acoustics of recording and learning how to successfully and fluently meld parts into a cohesive musical idea.

I currently cut dance music for

dance studios throughout the state of Utah; studios that I have cut music for have consistently received very high marks (hence the inspiration for “Platinum” in the name). I treat music cuts with the same care that I treat recording and mixing new music. I use a mixture of professional-level software and high-quality hardware to ensure platinum-level cuts. On the rare occasions that the number of songs to cut is beyond my ability, I enlist the help of other studio colleagues. Nevertheless, as the Mix Master, I make sure to review and adjust any of the final product to make sure that your music will be nothing less than the best.
